Fifteen leaders in high school activity programs across the country received National Federation of State High School Associations Citations on Thursday, June 28.

An award designed to honor individuals who have made contributions to the NFHS, state high school associations, athletic director and coaching professions, the officiating avocation and fine arts/performing arts programs, the NFHS Citation is one of the most highly regarded achievements in high school athletics and performing arts.

In cross country, his teams won nine girls and 19 boys state titles, and in track and field, they claimed three girls and 12 boys state championships. He also coached 18 individual cross country state champions and 127 track and field champions. Barnett was the school’s athletic director as well during his final 16 years.
