Has led two-time defending Class 1A champions to a 14-0 record and third straight trip to the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic … Carried 198 times for 1,929 yards and with 35 TDs through last week’s semifinals, where the Blue Devils extended state-best winning streak to 39 games … Has seen action as a part-time strong safety … Rushed for 2,286 yards with 34 TDs during the 2016 season as Simmons finished 13-0 and defeated Lumberton for the title … Chosen for Bernard Blackwell All-Star Classic … Attracting interest from 4-year schools as well as several community colleges.

Simmons coach Wade Tackett says:
“Marquez probably gained 15 pounds since last year. From watching his film as a junior and now as a senior, he has gotten more physical. He just doesn’t get tackled by only one player. He’ll find the hole quickly, then power his way down the field. I think Marquez is a really good high school running back who’ll get even better in college. He’s probably our most vocal leader, a cheerleader on the sidelines and in practice. He’s a National Honor Society student and a ‘yes sir, no sir’ guy. He’s been in the spotlight for three years, but he knows how to handle it.”
