Sixteen seniors from across the state were honored Monday as Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athletes for 2016 at the Jackson Hilton hotel.
The honorees — one boy and one girl from high schools in each of the MHSAA’s eight geographical districts — were chosen for their academic accomplishments as well as their participation in high school athletics and extracurricular activities. The winners were joined at the 21st annual banquet luncheon by family members, school administrators, coaches and MHSAA partners.
Each winner receives a $1,500 college scholarship through the support of MHSAA partners like BankPlus, Mississippi Sports Medicine, C Spire and Polk’s Meat Products.
All scholar athletes (288) who were nominated by their respective schools are considered Lindy Callahan Scholar Athletes and will receive certificates to be presented at a later date.
