Retired MHSAA executive director Ennis Proctor selected to NFHS Hall of Fame

Dr. Ennis Proctor, retired Executive Director of the Mississippi High School Activities Association, has been selected to the National High School Hall of Fame in Indianapolis.

Dr. Proctor will join 11 other inductees in July at the conclusion of the annual summer meeting of the National Federation of State High School Associations.

A high school football standout in Miami and successful football coach at Raymond and Wingfield high schools, Dr. Proctor served as principal of Forest Hill High School before taking over at the MHSAA in 1991. He retired in 2011, one year after serving as President of the NFHS and capping a 47-year career in education.

“Dr. Proctor is extremely worthy of this honor,” said Don Hinton, who succeeded Dr. Proctor as MHSAA Executive Director. “He elevated the association to the place it is today. We are proud of him being able to represent Mississippi with this prestigious honor. Very few individuals get the opportunity to be recognized in this particular Hall of Fame.”

Ennis Proctor is the eighth selection with MHSAA ties. Previous inductees include:

Marvin Fay Reid, contest official (1987)
Lindy Callahan, athletic administrator (1995)
Willie Richardson, athlete (2002)
Elbert “Lum” Wright, football coach (2004)
Betty Whitlock, fine arts (2005)
Jim Drewry, football coach (2008)
Harry Breland, baseball coach (2009)
