HATTIESBURG, Miss. — May 16, 2025 — East Union scored nine runs in the first two innings and never trailed, defeating Pisgah 12-1 in five innings Friday in Game 2 of the MHSAA Class 2A softball championship series at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
East Union (32-4) capitalized on eight hits, five walks, and three Pisgah errors to take control early and enforce the run rule after five innings. Lilli Johnson led the offensive effort, going 2-for-2 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth.
Pitcher Lilli Cochran allowed one unearned run on six hits over five innings. She walked two and struck out two in the complete-game victory.
Every East Union starter reached base at least once. Maddie Clayton went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the fifth, and Mallie Robbins added an RBI single in the first inning. The Urchins scored six runs in the first and three more in the second, taking a 9-0 lead before Pisgah broke through with an unearned run in the bottom of the second.
Pisgah (28-8) was limited to six singles. Abby Young had two hits and scored the team’s only run, which came on a throwing error after a strikeout. Three Pisgah pitchers combined to allow 12 runs — nine earned — with no strikeouts.
