Tailgating

Campus Guidelines

  • With the exception of approved University-sponsored tents, all spaces are first to come basis.
  • No pull behind cookers/ grills is allowed on grass areas without prior approval from the University.
  • Automobiles are prohibited from the grassy and tree-lined areas unless approved by the University prior to game day.
  • Small, portable, single-unit grills are permitted. All burning or hot charcoal must be disposed of properly; do not dispose of on any grass area, in trashcans or dumpsters.
  • Portable generators with a decibel rating of 60db or less are permitted for tailgate use.
  • No solicitation is permitted, including commercial or political advertising.
  • Help keep the campus beautiful by placing all trash in the proper receptacles.
  • Music and amplified sound should be kept at a reasonable level that does not detract from other tailgating experience.
  • Do not leave valuables unattended. The University is not responsible for unattended tents and items.

Spirit Park Guidelines

Located between the Thad Cochran Center and the Century Park South residential complex, Spirit Park is the new hub of activity on the game day.

  • Fans wishing to unload for Spirit Park should enter Golden Eagle Avenue from 4th Street, then turn onto Ray Guy Way. When unloading tailgate items during hours that academic classes are in session please do not block Ray Guy Way between Spirit Park and Century Park South residential complex. After 5 p.m. you may park temporarily on Ray Guy Way to unload tailgate items.
  • Only University-sponsored events are held in reserved spaces. All other space is claimed on a first-come basis.
  • No wheeled vehicles or trailers are permitted in Spirit Park (this includes golf carts)
  • No pull behind cookers/ grills is allowed in Spirit Park.
  • Open fires are prohibited.
  • Pop-up tents of 12’x12′ or smaller are the only tents allowed in Spirit Park – the driving of stakes for any tent setup is prohibited (to avoid electrical and water lines).

CLINTON – After extensive discussions with multiple potential hosts, the MHSAA board voted Tuesday to partner with the University of Southern Mississippi for the 2024 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic (MHSAA Football State Championships), which will be played at “The Rock” on December 5-7.

“We appreciate the time and conversations with all the potential host sites through this process,” said MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves. “We have no doubt that Southern Miss and the city of Hattiesburg will once again do a tremendous job hosting and creating exciting, memorable experiences for our schools, students, coaches, families, and communities.”

Remaining a three-day event, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Gridiron Classic will begin on Thursday, December 5 with Class 3A at 4:00 pm and Class 7A at 7:30 pm. Friday’s (Dec. 6) Class 1A and Class 5A championships will be played at 4:00 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. On Saturday (Dec. 7), Class 2A will play at Noon, followed by Class 4A at 3:30 and Class 6A at 7:00.
