Saltilllo and East Central were strong on the pitcher’s mound Friday, but Saltillo held off East Central 2-1 to force game 3 in the MHSAA Class 5A Baseball Championships. Gavin McCoy allowed just five hits to East Central.
McCoy got the start for Saltillo and surrendered one run on five hits over seven innings, striking out four.
Eli Smith was on the hill for East Central. The hurler lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four.
Luke Wood went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Saltillo in hits. The Tigers was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit an error. Mason Easterling had the most chances in the field with seven.
Nate Trochessett led East Central Hornets Varsity with two hits in three at bats.
