MHSAA to host Officiate Mississippi Day at Jackson Hilton

Game officials and anyone interested in becoming one are invited to attend the MHSAA’s first “Officiate Mississippi Day” on Monday, July 16 in Jackson.

It’s not too late to sign up, either.

The registration table at the Jackson Hilton at 1001 East County Line Road opens Monday at 8 AM with the first general session set to begin at 8:30. The conference, which includes a break for lunch from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m., is scheduled to conclude at 4.

Registration is $40 at the door.

The conference will include several guest speakers in the field, including assigners, coordinators and game officials from the professional, college and high school ranks.

“This is the first of its kind for Mississippi,” MHSAA assistant director Robert Holloway said. “It’s a great opportunity. When you’re talking about SEC people, Final Four people and World Series people willing to share their expertise, then officiating can’t help but get better.

“The MHSAA wants to be proactive about improving officiating at the high school level, but this conference is open to all. Anyone who’s officiating or even interested in officiating at any level — from youth leagues to the pros — is welcome to attend.”
