The MHSAA Executive Committee voted 14 to 0 to move to the 6A classification (beginning in the 2009 - 2010 school year) system with 32 schools in the top two classes and the rest of the schools evenly divided among the other classes. Enrollments and numbers of schools will change by fall 2008 when a final reclassification assignment will be made.
The Committee also approved moving to a final four format for the state basketball championships as a way to reduce travel costs and to accommodate the addition of a class to the competition. (posted 5-16-08)
