MHSAA State Powerlifting championships set for Saturday

The MHSAA State Powerlifting championships return to Jackson and the Mississippi Coliseum this weekend.
The event, which is presented by the United States Marines Corps, begins with the opening ceremony Saturday at 8 a.m.
Session I lifting (boys 114 pounds to 181 pounds classes/girls 97 pounds to 132 pounds classes) begins at 8:15 a.m. The awards ceremonies for Session I are scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Session II lifting (boys 198 pounds to Super Heavyweight/girls 148 pounds to Super Heavyweight) starts at 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremonies for Session II are scheduled for 8 p.m.
Boys reigning state champions are Gulfport (Class 6A), Pearl (Class 5A), Lafayette (Class 4A), Velma Jackson (Class 3A), Scott Central (Class 2A) and Coffeeville (Class 1A).
Girls reigning state champions are Pearl (Class III), McClain (Class II) and Charleston (Class I).
