JACKSON — Tupelo’s girls won a 10th consecutive title, while the Tupelo boys finished first for the 10th time in 11 years at the MHSAA/Mississippi Army National Guard State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Choctaw Trails.

 
Pontotoc also swept the titles in 4A, winning third a straight championship in both boys and girls.
 
In Class 6A boys, Tupelo finished with 37 points (low points total wins) to take home top honors. Ocean Springs (70) was runner-up.
 
Oak Grove sophomore Will Murphey ran a meet-best time of 16 minutes, 27 seconds for 5,000 meters to win the 6A boys race.
 
In Class 6A girls, Tupelo (60) was followed by Oak Grove (xx).
 
In Class 5A boys, Oxford (46) and Saltillo (78) finished one-two.
 
In Class 5A girls, Saltillo (53) and Starkville (62) were the top two teams. It was the third championship in a row for the Lady Tigers.
 
Starkville seventh grader Kate Mattox ran a meet-best time of 15:02.1 to win the 5A girls race.
 
In Class 4A boys, Pontotoc (44) and St. Stanislaus (71) finished one-two.
 
In Class 4A girls, Pontotoc (32) was followed by Corinth (89) in the team standings.
 
In Class 3A boys, St. Andrew’s (35) edged Kossuth (39) for the top honors.
 
In Class 3A girls, St. Patrick (33 points) won a third straight title. St. Andrew’s (67) was second.
 
In Class 2A boys, J.Z. George (28) won a second consecutive title. Potts Camp (58) was second.
 
In Class 2A girls, East Union (41) nipped New Site (48) to win a second straight title.
 
In Class 1A boys, French Camp (39) captured first place with West Lincoln (64) taking second.
 
In Class 1A girls, Myrtle (35) topped West Union (39) for first place.
 
More than 1,300 runners participated in the event, which was sponsored by the Mississippi Army National Guard. An estimated 4,000 attended the event.
 
“We truly appreciate the Mississippi Army National Guard’s participation,” MHSAA executive director Don Hinton said. “There is so much enthusiasm for this event — and the men and women from the Army National Guard helped take that enthusiasm to the next level with their ideas and contributions. We are looking forward to working with them again as our title sponsor for the state track and field meet next May at Pearl High School.”
